Step 1: Preparing the Space

Step 2: Sanding the Floor

• First Cut: Used 40-grit sandpaper with a heavy-duty drum sander to remove the old finish.
• Second Cut: Smoothed the floor with 80-grit sandpaper.
• Final Buffing: Finished with a 100-grit mesh to polish the surface, leaving it perfectly smooth.

Step 3: Applying Water Popping for Richer Color

To enhance the richness and uniformity of the wood stain, we applied a technique known as water popping. This process involves:

• Lightly wetting the surface of the wood to open its grain.
• Allowing the stain to penetrate deeper into the wood, resulting in a more vibrant and consistent color.

Step 4: Staining and Finishing the Floor

The owner preferred an semi-gloss oil-based finish for its durability and traditional appearance. We applied three coats of oil-based finish, ensuring long-lasting protection for the floor. This process included:

• Carefully applying each coat for maximum coverage and even distribution.
• Letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next layer.
