Stand Up Flooring recently performed a hardwood floor refreshing service for a house in Northbrook that was on the market. Instead of fully sanding the floors, we opted for a less invasive yet highly effective method. We used a buffing process with two different sanding meshes to smooth out the surface, effectively removing old dirt and grime that had accumulated over time.
This approach is advantageous when you don’t need to change the floor color or address deep damage. By buffing and lightly sanding, we preserved more of the floor’s original material while still achieving a refreshed look. After buffing, we reapplied stain to the deepest scratches to blend them seamlessly with the rest of the floor.
To complete the process, we applied coats of low VOC water-based finish. This finish not only enhances the floor’s appearance but also restores the protective layer that helps prevent future damage. The result was a rejuvenated floor that looked clean and well-maintained.
The refreshing process is quicker and less disruptive than full sanding and is particularly effective when the floor’s color remains desirable and only minor imperfections need addressing. This efficient method allowed the house to be sold successfully. The new owner was so impressed with our work that they hired us again to install quarter rounds in their newly bought home.
